Renewal SA is undertaking a program works in and around the Adelaide Railway Station to repair, restore and enhance the heritage features of this iconic building; improve pedestrian flows and user experience; and increase the amount, variety and quality of the retail tenancies within the public concourse.

The program of works to be undertaken includes:

  • Repair and restoration of the eastern and western façades, including the large arched windows.
  • Creation of 700 square metres of new retail space.
  • Improvements to existing retail tenancies.
  • Upgrades to the North Terrace frontage, entrances and public realm.
  • Restoration of the heritage features of the upper access ramp and main concourse.
  • Implementation of internal and external architectural lighting.

This program of works is being coordinated with the redevelopment of Festival Plaza in order to minimise overall disruption to businesses and the public, and to ensure that the Adelaide Railway Station maintains its standing as an iconic heritage building and core component of the Adelaide Riverbank.

This project is expected to support approximately 55 full time equivalent jobs over the construction period.

The capital investment is $12.4 million (State Government) - $3 million of which is subject to approval of additional funding required to complete the eastern façade restoration works.
