The renewal of the Island's townships will be critical to attracting consumers, businesses (that have closed) and visitors to return to our townships, as we emerge from COVID-19 and the effects of the drought and bush fires.

As the Island emerges from these crises, it is essential that Island's key townships main-street's infrastructure and public realm be upgraded and presented at their functional best, to ensure the island community of residents and visitors will reinvest their money and time back into the local business community.

Key highlights include:

  • Kingscote: Town square upgrade that reinvigorates an underutilised space through the provision of a shared use zone, edge activation, enhanced landscape amenities and a flexible community event space.
  • Penneshaw: An upgrade to the North Tce main street, Nat Thomas Street and the Ferry Wharf precinct.
  • American River: The creation of a quality foreshore precinct.
  • Parndana: Streetscape improvements for Cook Street.

This project is delivered through local council.
